Cameron Norrie vs Jack Draper: Preview

After a very productive clay season, Norrie is now extending his run on the grass courts of London. He beat Albert Ramos in the opening round and in form player Aslan Karatsev in the second. The first set was evenly contested, with both players breaking each other until the Russian dropped his serve for the second time. Norrie then saved two break back points before eventually clinching the set. In the second set, Norrie carried on the momentum after getting only one break. He has already beaten Marin Cilic and Dominic Thiem in 2021. The southpaw has won 31 matches out of 43 outings and will fancy his chances of making another deep run at this tournament.

On the other hand, Draper came into this event as a wild card and upset Jannik Sinner in the first round. Thereafter, he beat Alexander Bublik in straight sets too. Interestingly, the teenager has only played tie-break sets in this tournament so far. Draper was also a runner-up in the boys’ singles at Wimbledon in 2018. Till now, he has shown no signs of fear. If he can maintain his composure, it will make for an intriguing match.

Norrie is the higher ranked and more experienced player. Moreover, his recent form and run on the clay must have given him enough confidence to get through a lower-ranked player. It must also be said that Norrie was brilliant in converting 80% of the break point opportunities he has in the match against Karatsev. It will be interesting to see both players getting equal support in this match. That said, Norrie should progress ahead.

Match Prediction: Cameron Norrie should win in two sets.
