With the 2022 Australian Open set to begin in less than a week, 6 days to be precise, the top-seeds for the Grand Slam were announced as the tournament prepares for the draws of the Slam that will then confirm the fixtures for the tournament as well.
After the Novak Djokovic case that saw the player spending some time in federal quarantine and then going on to win his court appeal, as things stand, the player will be featuring at the Grand Slam on the lookout for his 21st Grand Slam title and 10th Australian Open title. Djokovic has been seeded 1st in the list released that further confirms his participation.
On the women’s side, local girl and 2-time champion Ash Barty has been seeded first and will be one of the heavy favourites to win the title after her sensational run on hard courts last season and the player has already clinched the WTA-500 event in Adelaide winning both the singles and the doubles title on the same day.
Djokovic will be the 3-time defending champion this year at the Grand Slam while 4-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka will be defending her 2021 title and will be on the lookout for her 5th major and 3rd at Melbourne Park. Naomi has been seeded 13th this year.
Reigning Grand Slam champions, Daniil Medvedev and Emma Raducanu have been seeded for the Slam this year. Medvedev will be the 2nd seed at the Slam and the Russian is also one of the heavy favourites after having reached the finals at the 2021 Australian Open as well. As for Emma, the Brit is seeded 17th and will be making her debut at Melbourne Park this year.
