Novak Djokovic booked a place in the quarterfinals of French Open 2021, after the Italian, Lorenzo Musetti withdrew from the match in the last set. The Serbian was tested by the youngster, and was forced into a fifth set. Musetti won the opening two sets in tiebreakers, and was all set to cause the upset of the tournament.

However, Novak Djokovic displayed his true class, and came back roaring into the match. He won the next two sets, and dropped just one game. He was leading 4-0 in the decider, when Musetti had to withdraw because of injury. Next up for the world number one, is a clash against another talented Italian, Matteo Berrettini.

Lorenzo Musetti has had a successful start to his Grandslam career. The Italian became only the sixth player to reach the last 16 on his debut at a major event. He defeated the likes of David Goffin and Marco Cecchinato in his incredible run in Paris this year.

The 19-year old put up an incredible fight against a player of Novak Djokovic’s quality, and pushed him on the backfoot in the early stages of the match. Currently ranked 74th in the world, he is expected to gain a few spots in the ATP Rankings.

After the match ended and as Lorenzo Musetti was making his way off the court, Novak Djokovic took some time to applaud the youngster for his brave effort. The entire crowd cheered for the 19-year old who put the world number one under tremendous pressure. Next up for Musetti is the grass court season, where he will hope to perform as well.
