World No.1 and 20-time grand slam Novak Djokovic produced yet another masterclass at the Ariake Tennis Park in the Round of 16 as he beat Spanish 16th seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in straight sets 6-3,6-1 to reach the quarterfinals of the Tokyo Olympics.

Djokovic, is currently in the form of his life hardly had to break any sweat and is now just 3 steps away from the elusive Olympic gold, the only piece of silverware missing his elite cabinet. The Serbian machine is also eyeing to complete a golden slam, i.e. win all 4 slams and an Olympic gold in the same calendar year. He has already won the Australian Open, the French Open and Wimbledon this year.

Djokovic, the overwhelming favorite to win gold started his third round match slow. He struggled on serve and was 2-break points down. But he managed to keep his calm and save those. He then gave Fokina the taste of his own medicine, pouncing hard on the returns for winners. With a decisive break, Djokovic won the opening set 6-3.

Djokovic had gotten the much needed momentum and he wasn’t going to give it away. He showed Fokina why he is the best player in the world and thrashed winners at will. He was quick to break Fokina early on twice a stormed with a 5-1 lead. He won the last game too, wrapping up the set 6-1 to advance into the quarterfinals at Olympics for the third time. He will now face local, Kei Nishikori in the last 8.
