Novak Djokovic cross-training with Belgian gymnasts at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics
Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic landed in Tokyo earlier this week for the Olympic games and so his pursuit for the gold medal has now begun. He has never won an Olympic gold before and is the only title left to achieve in his tennis career.
Djokovic will be eager to win the gold medal to get one step closer to achieving the Calendar Golden Grand Slam. Steffi Graff is the only player to ever achieve the Golden Slam back in 1988 when she won all four Grand Slams and the Olympic gold medal at the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games.
The Serbian triumphed over the Italian, Matteo Berrettini in the Wimbledon Championships 2021 in a thrilling 4 set match. This win gave the Serbian his 6th Wimbledon win and his 20th Grand Slam title. The Big 3, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are now equaled for the most Grand Slam titles.
Djokovic has won the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon this year. He is on track and in very good form to achieve a Calendar Golden Slam if he prevails at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and U.S. Open.
The world number one was seen training in Tokyo first with Britain’s, Andy Murray yesterday and then with the young German, Alexander Zverev. He was later pictured with the Belgium gym team.
Novak Djokovic perfecting splits alongside Belgian Gymnasts
Belgian gymnast, Nina Derwael posted a picture on her Instagram of Djokovic doing splits with her and he is executing the splits to perfection. She captioned the picture, “When @djokernole asks for a picture, you can’t refuse…;)”.
Many were quick to comment on the picture about Djokovic’s flexibility and talent and questioned whether there was anything he cannot do. “Man is goat in gymnastics also”, “Omg he can do anything, legend” some fans commented on the post.
“This guy could’ve won gold in gymnastics the way he moves on a tennis court. Let’s hope he gets gold this year if Murray doesn’t” said another.
Novak is known for his flexibility and agility on the court. He is known for being an incredible athlete with superb flexibility which gives him an advantage over his opponents as he is able to play shots which others struggle with. He compared himself to Spiderman during Wimbledon 2021 and asked fans to flood the internet with memes and they didn’t disappoint. Throughout Wimbledon, Djokovic was seen doing splits on the court to reach every shot possible. Gymnastics legend, Nadia Comaneci commented on his post saying, “Great flexibility”.
The Serbian will be up against world number 135, Hugo Dellien in the first round of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and will probably be seen doing his splits on court again if he wants to win that gold medal.
