World No. 1 Novak Djokovic and World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev recently came in the firing line of American tennis player Maxime Cressy who came into the limelight after his stint Down Under during the Australian Open series of the ATP Tour. Cressy started the season at the 2022 Melbourne Summer Set 1 where he made his way to the finals of the tournament having started as a qualifier.
Cressy was defeated in the finals by Rafael Nadal in the finals. He then reached the quarter-finals of the 2022 Sydney Tennis Classic and then made his way to the 4th round of the 2022 Australian Open losing to Medvedev in a tightly contested 4-setter. After the match, Medvedev had called Cressy’s style ‘boring‘ and admitted he was playing mind games to throw the American off his game.
“Even players like Novak Djokovic were afraid to go to the net. That’s why they’re stuck in these 30-40 shot rallies. That’s why they sit back and win all their games because they’re better than all these guys from the baseline. I believe it takes a new way of winning for people to start seeing tennis as more exciting and thrilling.
“The paradox is that Medvedev calls my game boring when most people would like to see that style come back,” said Cressy during his recent interview with Palm Beach Post at the 2022 Delray Beach Open, where the American hit back at critics of the reclining style of ‘serve and volley’ in which he is becoming an expert but not many players are actually using the playing style.

Having lost in the first round of the 2022 Dallas Open, Cressy will now be seen playing in the 2022 Delray Beach Open against John Millman in what will be their first-ever career meeting. As for Djokovic, he will make his season debut at the 2022 Dubai Championships where he is the topmost seed with the tournament starting in the final week of the month.
Medvedev will also return to the Tour in his first match since his loss in the 2022 Australian Open finals to Nadal. Medvedev will be seen in action at the 2022 Acapulco Open where he will also be the top seed and stands a golden chance to replace Novak at the top of the ATP rankings. Medvedev and Djokovic will return to action in the same week.
