Novak Djokovic

World No.1 Novak Djokovic has not only been the most dominant player on the ATP tour for over a decade, but he is also widely regarded as the Greatest of all time to play the sport.

The Serbian has successfully emerged out of the shadows of his rivals Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. In the process, he has also beaten the two legends and holds a better head-to-head record over both.

As far as records and achievements are concerned, Djokovic has consistently shattered them all on his way to the helm of men’s tennis. Today, the 20-time Grand Slam champion stands on the cusp on winning a Calendar Slam for 2021.

If Djokovic wins the US Open, he will not only overtake his rivals on the all-time Grand Slam leaders list, but the 34-year-old will also become only the second player in the Open Era, after Rod laver to win all the four Majors in one Calendar year.

However, despite his on-court heroics, Djokovic is unable to get the same love and respect as Federer and Nadal do. In fact, the Serb is often heckled by the fans, across the globe.

While many experts have their reasons and explanations behind the unfair treatment dished out to Djokovic, former World No.7 Mardy Fish believes that Djokovic’s ability to beat Federer and Nadal consistently is what upsets the fans.

“I feel like people don’t like Novak Djokovic because he beats their favourite player all the time,” the American tweeted. “People love Roger and Rafa so much he’s never going to be well liked for that. Nole will finish with 23+ slams. Embrace him!”

‘Djokovic has no weakness’: Fish

Fish had also earlier stated that the top-ranked Djokovic doesn’t have any weakness to play. “He has no holes. He has the best returns of all time, the best defensive returns. He is a nightmare to play.”

The top seed will next take on Matteo Berrettini in the quarterfinals of the 2021 US Open. He currently leads the Italian 3-0 in their head to head record.
