‘Better late than never’ ATP contacts Olga Sharypova over ex-boyfriend Alexander Zverev’s physical abuse fiasco
Olga Sharypova, Alexander Zverev
After almost a year and a half, German tennis star Alexander Zverev‘s former girlfriend Olga Sharypova has been contacted by the ATP after she made accusations against the tennis star of physically and emotionally assaulting her.
According to several reports, it is just a follow-up by the ATP as they are investigating Zverev, against whom she has placed allegations of domestic violence. It was back in October 2021, when ATP confirmed with an official statement that they will investigate the matter by themselves which was even welcomed by the German tennis star.
Olga Sharypova first accused Zverev in an interview with journalist Ben Rothenberg where she accused her former partner of domestic violence and physically and emotionally exploiting her while they were in a three-year relationship. She detailed that the incidents happened near the US Open and the Laver Cup back in 2019.
Sharypova then again gave an interview with the same journalist and the report was published on Slate in August 2021. This report included further incidents that happened near the Shanghai Masters, which according to Olga was the most violent assault from Zverev.
However, one can try a lot but they will never find the interviews after Zverev’s lawyers filed an injunction. Hence the website stated that they have removed the article temporarily because of an important injunction issued by the German court. While Slate continues their fight against the injunction, the articles remain offline.

Zverev has not been charged as the pieces of evidence are not enough for the police to take action. Therefore the German is on tour and is plying his trade in different events all around the world. However, the German youngster has completely denied the accusations and has welcomed the investigation suggested by the ATP.
“I categorically and unequivocally deny having abused Olya. I also fully support the creation of an ATP domestic violence policy. I will not address this matter any further,” the German tennis star shared in a statement back in August last year.
Lather ATP announced that they are setting up a private investigator to investigate this matter surrounding Zverev. ATP Chief Executive Massimo Calvelli said this back in October, “The allegations raised against Alexander Zverev are serious and we have a responsibility to address them. We hope our investigation will allow us to establish the facts and determine appropriate follow-up action. We understand Zverev welcomes our investigation and acknowledge that he has denied all allegations.”
Putting a twist on all of this famous journalist Ben Rothenberg who is heavily involved in the case has highlighted how ATP’s investigator has hardly any experience in dealing with domestic violence cases like Olga Sharypova’s case. He is more of a secret agent and security consultant making him not the ideal person for the job.
“Concerningly, I think, the investigator hired by the ATP has listed no relevant expertise investigating domestic violence cases like hers, with his primary stated experience and expertise coming as a Secret Service agent and security consultant for sporting events,” Rothenberg tweeted along with the update on Olga Sharypova being called by the ATP.
Ever since ATP assured everyone to look into this matter they have been very quiet. Olga has stated how the ATP has not even contacted even once as the investigations against Alexander Zverev go on. However, they have finally approached her after 17 long months and it will be interesting to see how things unfold from here.
