Actor Jon Bernthal reveals advice Serena Williams gave him for portraying Rick Macci in King Richard

Ever since the biopic ‘King Richard‘ based on the life of the father of Venus and Serena Williams, the movie has received great praise for bringing the story of the young tennis stars who were coached by their father Richard Williams on their way to success as both of them went on to become World No. 1 in both the Singles and Doubles discipline.
The cast of the film has also received great appreciation for excellent work done in trying to get closer to the Williams family in terms of their appearances, speaking style and other mannerisms that make the movie a wonderful experience. One such instance was shared by Jon Bernthal, who portrays coach Rick Macci, one of the first coaches of the Williams sister apart from their father.
Rick had a massive influence on the two youngsters when they were under his wings for training and like many other players who trained under Rick, the Williams sisters also enjoyed their time with Macci.
“Everybody who talked about Rick Macci, including Serena Williams, the first thing they said is, ‘It was among the funnest times in their lives. Just playing for Rick was fun,” said Jon during his interview with Good Morning America.
Serena Williams yet to confirm her return to the Tour

While the success of King Richard certainly overjoyed the Williams family and their fans, the news of Serena missing the 2022 Australian Open rained on the happy parade. Serena has not played a competitive match since she was unfortunate to slip and injure her leg in the 1st round of the 2021 Wimbledon and was forced to end the season despite making multiple attempts to return.
While the fans hoped that the 23-time Grand Slam champion will be back on the Tour when the new season begins in Australia, acting upon the advice of her medical team, the 40-year old decided to delay her return in order to stay more fit later and let her injury heal completely without risking anything further.
While she has confirmed her season won’t begin in Australia, she is yet to disclose her plans for the season and when will she make a return to the Tour.
