Currently the World No. 30, Roger Federer continues to remain on the sidelines as he is recovering from his knee surgery that he picked up during his quarter-final run at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Federer had undergone a similar surgery earlier and had returned to the Tour only in March after missing nearly 15 months of action. He also chose to withdraw from the 2021 French Open prior to his 4th round match in order to remain fit for the Wimbledon where he was looking for his 21st Grand Slam title.

Federer chose to undergo the surgery in order to have normal leg movements even after retirement from the sport. The early estimates of his surgery and recovery had made his participation in 2022 Wimbledon also doubtful, there is some hope that the 20-time Grand Slam champion will be back well before the Championships.

As per the reports of journalist Christopher Clarey, who is also the author of Federer’s biography ‘The Master: The Long Run and Beautiful Game of Roger Federer‘, recently revealed that the Swiss Maestro will announce his ATP Calendar shortly. Federer does intent on coming back “One more time,” but is still having restricted movements under constant medical supervision by his doctors and will make a final decision only in April or May.

Roger started his 2021 season in Doha where he lost in the quarter-finals of the ATP-250 event in March. He did not play another match till May when he stepped on Claycourts for the Geneva Open but suffered a shocking exit in his first match there. He next played at the 2021 French Open where he reached the 4th round after some fiery battles but did not play further in order to remain fit for the remainder of the season.

After a shocking second-round defeat in Halle, he reached Wimbledon where after a shaky start in his first round, he found his way to the quarter-finals where Polish youngster Hubert Hurkacz took down the 8-time Wimbledon champion in straight-sets with a bagel in the third set. Federer injured his knee during this time and despite hoping to make returns to the Tour, he was unable to and called it quits for the season.
