Reilly Opelka will return to Wimbledon for the 4th time and in the main-draw for the 2nd time when he takes the court at the Wimbledon 2021. He was defeated in the 3rd round of the 2019 Wimbledon after having defeated former World No. 3 Stan Wawrinka in the 2nd round. 2019 was the first time he reached the main-draw of the Grand Slam.

Opelka comes to Wimbledon from the Queen’s Club 2021 where he was defeated in the 1st round itself. Prior to that, he was defeated in the 3rd round of the French Open 2021 where he was defeated by World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev in straight-sets.

Dominik Koepfer will be making his 3rd appearance at the Wimbledon and will be in the main-draw for the 2nd time after making his main-draw debut at the 2019 Wimbledon. He was defeated in the 3rd round of the qualifying stages during the 2018 Wimbledon, where he made his debut at the All-England Club.

Koepfer played 2 Grass tournaments before coming to Wimbledon. He made his Grass debut for the season at the ATP Stuttgart Open 2021 and later played the ATP Halle Open 2021 losing in the first round in both the tournaments.

This will be their 3rd meeting and first on Grass. Both of their previous meetings took place on different surfaces. Koepfer won both the matches in straight-sets starting with their first match at the 2019 US Open and later at this year’s Madrid Masters. Dominik Koepfer leads the head-to-head tie 2-0.

Opelka will come into the clash with a career Grass record of 6-10 and an overall season record of 8-11. Apart from his 6 wins out of 10 matches on Clay, he was defeated in majority of his matches on Hardcourts. Koepfer will come into the tie with a 17-11 career Grass record and 13-14 season record.

While both the players have struggled this season, the tie could swing either ways. It will all come down to who can withstand longer as both the players can go deep. However, going by the seeding, Opelka will be the favourite for this clash but it does not seem to be a smooth sail for the American.
