Naomi Osaka has made a name for herself at the highest level by defeating several top-rated tennis players. However, after all the controversy regarding press meets and conferences that led to Naomi’s withdrawal from French Open, the Japanese tennis star hasn’t delivered much on the court.

Osaka took part in the Tokyo Olympics and was regarded as Japan’s biggest hope for winning gold in tennis. However, she couldn’t deliver what was expected of her as she was defeated by Marketa Vondrousova in straight sets early on in the tournament.

Osaka’s comeback hasn’t been as good as many expected. After the astonishing loss at the Olympics in Tokyo, Osaka came into Cincinnati and performed well in her first game against American tennis star Coco Gauff. Gauff fought hard but was defeated by Osaka in a hard-fought game which was stretched to three sets.

However, unfortunately, that was the only game where Osaka dominated at Cincinnati this season. In the third-round clash against unseeded Jil Teichmann, Osaka was astonishingly defeated. Jil dropped the first set and Osaka looked all set to script another easy win.

However, Jil had other ideas. She made a thumping comeback in the next two sets and ultimately scripted a major upset at Cincinnati. After the loss, Osaka claimed that she was maybe a bit too defensive and praised her opponent for playing top-quality tennis.

“She played really well. I thought in the 1st set I was doing everything I was supposed to do, and then in the 2nd and 3rd set I felt like I was a bit too defensive maybe,” Osaka claimed after the match. It will be interesting to see how Osaka performs in the upcoming tournaments.
