‘We are all Federians, but…’: Paolo Bertolucci reckons Federer is tennis but Djokovic is the strongest ever
Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic
Roger Federer, often regarded as one of the greatest athletes of all time has achieved a lot in his illustrious career. The Swiss tennis legend has the ability to bamboozle anyone on the tennis court. Over the years, the superstar has taken the popularity of the game to a whole new level.
However, another legend of the game who has won as many Grand Slam titles as him is Novak Djokovic. Such has been Djokovic’s domination in recent times that he has been almost impossible to defeat. Needless to say, when two big names like these rule the game, the debate about who is the greatest is always around the corner.
‘Djokovic and Nadal are capable of keeping competitive rhythms that I would not have managed for 5 minutes’: Bertolucci
Adding more spice to the already heated debate of who is the greatest of all times, Former Italian tennis player Paolo Bertolucci has claimed that although Federer is a tennis icon, the way Novak played in 2021 proves that he is the ‘strongest ever.’
“Federer is tennis, we are all Federians, but the Djokovic of 2013 and of the last year and a half is the strongest player ever. He and Nadal are capable of keeping mental and competitive rhythms that I would not have managed even 5 minutes,” Bertolucci told Corriere del Veneto.
He added that Djokovic, who won 3 Grand Slams in 2021 and made his way into the finals of the fourth is definitely ahead of the game. “On the one hand, If you win 3 Grand Slams and advance to the final in the 4th, you should also be ahead of the game in the world rankings at the end of a year,” he claimed.
Showering even more praise on the Serbian, Bertolucci added that Djokovic leads the way in almost everything which is in connection with tennis. “Novak Djokovic not only leads the ATP charts, but also the annual ranking, the Race, with a sovereign lead,” he said.
