Jessica Pegula moves into the 2nd round after a demolishing 6-3 6-0 victory over Magdalena Frech in their 1st round match yesterday. Jessica is playing in her first tournament since she was defeated by Belinda Bencic in the 3rd round of the 2021 US Open. Jessica had reached the semi-finals of the 2021 Montreal Open where she was defeated by eventual champion Camila Giorgi.

Andrea Petkovic defeated Olga Govortsova 6-2, 6-2 to advance into the 2nd round of the tournament. Similar to Jessica, she last played at the US Open where she was defeated by Spain’s Garbine Muguruza in the 2nd round. Andrea was the winner at the 2021 Romania Open but has not performed at the same level since and will hope to do so this week in Chicago.
