Since the last 3 weeks, World No.1 Novak Djokovic has been on everybody’s radar but not for the right reasons. He has been getting negative publicity for his vaccination stand. He was granted a medical exemption to compete at the 2022 Australian Open but got into trouble as soon as he landed in Australia. Now, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has spoken in support of the Serb.

After a 10-day long tussle with the Australian government and the judicial court, Djokovic was finally deported from the country a day before the tournament started after the Immigration minister canceled his visa for ‘public safety’. The Serb is currently back home enjoying time with his family and friends and has decided not to make any comments until the Australian Open is finished.

Recently, Swedish football legend and AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has now come in defense of Djokovic. When asked if he felt the Serb should have taken his jabs, Ibrahimovic responded:

He then countered that you get vaccinated to stay healthy and not to play tennis tournaments. “Okay, so you do it for health?” he asked. “But getting vaccinated to play in a tennis tournament is not the same thing.”

Ibrahimovic further said that getting vaccinated or not depends on one’s belief in the effectiveness and that everyone is entitled to their opinion. He added that people shouldn’t be forced to get vaccinated just to go to work.

Anyone who takes a vaccine does so because he believes in it or because he believes it is effective against the disease, but everyone must have their opinion. People should not be forced to do this just to go to work.

He clarified that he got vaccinated because it protects him and not to play football. Zlatan was very firm in his support for the autonomy of decisions regarding vaccination. He believed it to be an extremely personal issue, where one cannot be forced.
