Popyrin comes into this match after his third-round appearance at the 2021 US Open, where he was beaten by Britain’s Dan Evans in five sets. It has been a very rough time for the Aussie on the hard courts. Since the season began post-Wimbledon, Popyrin has been consistently bowing out of tournaments in the first two rounds.

Although the 22-year-old has received rich praise from the experts for his dynamic game, his only title win in 2021 came on the hard courts of Singapore in February. Popyrin will be keen on giving his best shot this week in the desert before the year draws to a close.
