The countdown for the 2022 Queens Championship has already started as tickets went live today (29th March). Therefore the event has given the tennis fans a small sneak peek of what they can experience live from the stands.
The Queen’s Championship has hosted some of the biggest names in tennis history and is considered one of the most prestigious events going on. The charm and the feel of the tournament are such that all the top players feel the urge to feature in the event which will start in June
The first three names confirmed for the 2022 Queen’s Championship
Matteo Berrettini
The defending champion will return to England in June to defend his crown which he won last year by beating Britain’s Cam Norrie in the finals. Matteo Berrettini is among the top five players currently in the men’s circuit and the Italian will be a major crowd puller, especially after his performances in the tournament last year.
After a sensational debut at the Queen’s Club, Berrettini will be back again. He has won five ATP 250 titles but will be keen to add an ATP 500 title. The 25-year-old has been very consistent on the ATP Tour. In recent years he has consistently made it to the last four of the Grand Slam and has even featured in the finals of Wimbledon where he lost out against Novak Djokovic last year.
Casper Ruud
The Norwegian tennis star will be in action at the Queen’s Club for the very first time. Casper Ruud has been bearing the Norwegian flag in tennis for some time now and will be looking to win his first ever ATP 500 title. Ruud’s maximum success has come on clay where he has won six out of his seven ATP titles. So he will have to improvise to replicate that success on grass.
However one cannot question his capability as he has been fairly consistent and that has been reflected in his rankings aswell. In recent years he has reached the semifinals of four ATP Masters events including Rome. Ruud even qualified for last year’s Nitto ATP Finals once again proving his quality.
Carlos Alcaraz
Despite all the comparisons drawn with Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz Garfia has already made a name for himself in the circuit. He won the Croatia Open last year beating Richard Gasquet in the finals in Umag. He became the youngest star to win a title since Kei Nishikori. However, the 18-year-old Spaniard then bagged the Rio Open title where he defeated Diego Schwartzmann in the finals.
The Spaniard is matured beyond his years and has already defeated some of the top players in the world. He has already beaten Berrettini in Rio and has also got the better of Andy Murray at the Vienna Open. He even reached the semifinals of the Indian Wells and was beaten by compatriot Rafael Nadal.
Overall it will be interesting to see how the youngster performs at the Queen’s Club Championship. Alcaraz is one of the most exciting talents in the Men’s circuit and for that, a lot of people will flock to the stadiums.
