Rafael Nadal is one the biggest names in men’s tennis and the period he peaked in rankings and titles is considered to be the Golden period of tennis. He has a whopping 20 Grand Slam titles to his name- A record held collectively by the Big Three ( Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic). Nadal is known to have a down-to-earth and charming personality laden with dreams.

One of his dream special projects was opening a tennis academy for kids where a new generation of tennis masters could be brought up. This dream came to fruition on the 19th of October, 2016, when the Rafa Nadal Academy was inaugurated. It was a very emotional event for Nadal and the event was attended by many big names of tennis. It is currently operated by Nadal’s long-time coach and uncle Toni Nadal.

The academy took to Twitter on the 24th of December to wish the world a Merry Christmas in their own tennis-themed tweet. “It’s Christmas time! Feliz Navidad a todos” read the tweet which had an image attached to it of tennis balls decorated together to form a Christmas tree- with ribbons and all. The image had a picture of Rafael Nadal kept in the background.

“Right now, tennis takes a back seat and the most important thing is everyone’s health, but if in the coming months the Academy can be used to help other professional players, I’d be delighted if they could come to train and also to compete,” said Carlos Costa, the Head of Business Development at the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar.

Nadal experienced an imbalanced season of tennis in 2021, where he ended the season early in August citing schedule issues. He also suffered his third ever loss at a French Open this year. But that’s not to say that did not play good tennis, Nadal won the Rome Masters by defeating long-time rival Djokovic in straight sets and also won the Barcelona Open prior to winning in Rome.
