Rafael Nadal becomes ‘Adopted Son’ of Spanish town Sant Llorenc des Cardassar

20-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal is not only one of the greatest to have played tennis, but he is also arguably the greatest Spanish sportsman of all time. In fact, the King of Clay is also known for his patriotism and loyalty towards his country.
Not only is Nadal one of the finest citizens of Spain, but he is also one of the most reliable countryman to stand up for his motherland, in times of crisis. The former World No.1 player with his Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca has also helped many young children in the country hone their tennis skills.
Moreover, even during the Covid-19 pandemic, Nadal also raised money to help the needy countrymen, and women of Spain with food and necessary stuff. In a nutshell, the 35-year-old has brought plenty of glory for Spain from his tennis.
But perhaps, Nadal’s biggest heroics as a Spaniard was seen when Sant Llorenc des Cardassar was damaged by rough weather in 2018. The effect of heavy downpour in the town of Spain killed 13 people and many more people suffered in various ways.
Staying fully committed to country, Nadal made his way to the affected areas and self-volunteered in cleaning up the entire mess. Furthermore, he also helped many citizens with accommodation at the Rafa Nadal Academy. In addition, the Mallorcan also donated one millions Euros via his foundation.
For his all-round heroics, the 13-time French Open champion has now been bestowed the title of ‘Adopted Son’ by the city council of Sant Llorenc des Cardassar.
Nadal to return in 2022
The Spanish sensation who lost in the semifinals of 2021 French Open to World No.1 Novak Djokovic, suffered a foot injury which kept him away from the Wimbledon Championships and Tokyo Games.
Although Nadal returned briefly on the hard courts of Washington in August, his foot injury worsened which eventually forced him to skip the remainder of the season. Currently, the 20-time Grand Slam champion is on a recovery path and hopes to return ahead of the Australian Open in 2022.
