The Spaniard defeated the top seed in a three set thriller, and clinched the second title of the clay court season. Nadal has endured a challenging week in Rome, and has come up against some quality opponents.
Rafael Nadal survived a scare against Denis Shapovalov in the third round. However, apart from his clash against the Canadian, it was a masterclass performance from the Spaniard. The second seed defeated Novak Djokovic 7-5, 1-6, 6-3 in the finals. Nadal won the first set, and was looking in lethal form. However, Djokovic outplayed him in the second set, and forced several errors out of the Spaniard.
Rafael Nadal bounced back in the third set, and was finding winners on a regular basis. The 33-year old now heads into the French Open 2021 to defend his crown, and claim his 14th title in Paris.
