BREAKING: Rafael Nadal ruled out for the remainder of the 2021 season
Rafael Nadal
In an unfortunate turn of events, Spanish tennis star, Rafael Nadal is ruled out of the rest of the season. Rafa’s fate for the season was predicted by many after he withdrew first from Toronto and then from Cincinnati due to his chronic foot injury.
He was set to compete at as many as 4 tournaments in the North American swing- Washington, Toronto, Cincinnati and then at the US Open. But due to his foot injuries, he withdrew from Toronto and Cincinnati to get ready for the US Open. But things went south for him when he was forced to visit his doctor all the way back at Spain. And on Friday, it was confirmed that Rafa not only will miss the US Open, but will also be out of the indoor hard court season.
Djokovic clear favorite to take the all-time lead
The stage was perfectly set at the 2021 US Open for the Big 3. The trio of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are all tied at 20 majors each and were eyeing to take the all-time lead at Flushing Meadows this year.
But to everyone’s dismay, neither Nadal, nor Federer will be competing at the US Open. Federer will undergo yet another knee surgery while Nadal’s foot injury won’t be healed in time. This means that Djokovic will once again be the favorite to win the US Open and create history by becoming the first man to win 21 majors and in turn, take the all-time lead.
