His absence from the US Open did disappoint many tennis fans who wanted to see him in action. Recently, in a series about the Rafael Nadal tennis Academy which is available on Amazon Prime, Nadal gave an interesting take on how to deal with defeats.

The global tennis star claimed that it is perfectly normal if one can’t digest defeat as it is a question of self-esteem. “It is normal not to accept defeat, it is a question of self-esteem. Every day, we give our best to be ready, to fight, to accept defeat without saying anything, which would mean not respecting all the efforts that we have made and produced,” he said.

Nadal went on to say that being angry after a loss is actually a good sign. “Being angry after a defeat is therefore a good sign of maturity as well while having the ability to accept and analyze it,” he said. Nadal was last seen on the court in the Washington Open where he was defeated in the round of 16s by Lloyd Harris.
