It wasn’t an ideal return for Rafael Nadal on tour. Playing his first match in more than 4 months, he lost to Andy Murray in straight sets ,6-3,7-5 at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship.

After the match, Nadal spoke about the ongoing vaccination scenario. Tennis Australia has announced that only vaccinated players will be allowed to play the Australian Open. The main focus around the matter is on defending champion Novak Djokovic because of his vaccination stance.

Djokovic has time and again said that getting vaccinated or not should be a personal choice and shouldn’t be made mandatory. He has decided not to make his vaccination status public and hence his participation at the Australian Open is still uncertain.

Nadal however has contrasting opinion on the same subject. He believes that he’s no one to question and rules and also said that he doesn’t pretend to know more than the authorised people.

“I am not with or without, I am just following what the organization of health says. I don’t pretend to know more than the authorized people say. If the people who really know about this say that we need to be vaccinated, who am I to create a different opinion?” Nadal said.

Will Djokovic play the Australian Open?

The biggest question in the build up to the Australian Open is whether Djokovic will travel to Australia or not? The Serb is yet to make his vaccination status public and the Australian authorities have made it clear that he won’t be given any special exemptions. But interestingly, Djokovic is named in the entry list for the tournament. He is yet to confirm his participation but will have to do so within the next 10 days.
