Rafael Nadal’s unbeaten streak under threat amidst injury concerns ahead of third-round match at Indian Wells

Rafael Nadal has had a dream start to his 2022 season. After a terrible second half of the 2021 season where he struggled with a foot injury, Nadal has managed to completely turn things around. He was on crutches a few months back and wasn’t even sure when he’d start the new season. To make things worse, he was tested positive for COVID-19 a few days before traveling to Australia.

But Nadal recovered just in time to play the Melbourne Summer Set and won the title without dropping a set. He then created history at the Australian Open where he won the title in one of the most dramatic finals in recent times. He became the first and only man in tennis history to win 21 major titles.

He then took a couple of weeks off and played the Mexican Open in Acapulco where he once again won the title. In doing so, he also extended his winning streak to 15-0 for the year; his best-ever start to a season. Before heading into the clay season, Nadal is currently playing the Indian Wells Masters where he pulled off a comeback in the second round against Sebastian Korda to win the match in a 3-set thriller 6-2,1-6,7-6(3).

During his second-round match against Korda, Nadal was seen limping towards the end of the third set. It is assumed that this may be because of his recurring foot issues which ruled him out last season. Nadal was seen practicing the next day but according to reports, he wasn’t feeling 100% well.

And because of this ailing foot, Nadal could withdraw from Indian Wells as a precautionary measure as his prime focus will be on the clay season where he is expected to play 4 tune-up tournaments before the French Open. It will be a shame if Nadal is forced to withdraw given his current form.
