Milos Raonic

Raonic’s season has been marred with injuries. After playing the Miami Masters back in March, the Canadian hasn’t been seen on the tour ahead of the ongoing Atlanta Open. While the 30-year-old loves playing on the hard courts, it is tough to see him not struggling with obvious rustiness. Although he has is still ranked No.22 in the ATP rankings and has also been given the wildcard for this tournament, one would imagine Raonic to endure some struggle for the rest of the season.

On the other hand, Nakashima comes into match with a different approach and hope. The 19-year-old beat Trent Bryde in the opening round in three sets. The American has been enjoying his time on the hard courts this season, after stunning big serving countrymen, John Isner and Sam Querry. He might be ranked at 115, but he has played 42 matches till now in 2021 and that is likely to come to his aid against a higher ranked Raonic.

The Canadian might be the top seed and wildcard in Atlanta, but Raonic has not had adequate match practice coming into this contest. It will not be a surprise that the big serving Raonic will be rusty and therein lies the opportunity for Nakashima to exploit the situation and move ahead. While Raonic might rely on his serve, the younger American is likely to find a way and march ahead in the tournament.

Match Prediction: Brandon Nakashima should win in three sets.
