Danielle Collins stormed into the semifinals of Australian Open 2022, as the American defeated Alize Cornet in straight sets in the last eight battle. The 27th seed was dominant right from the start, although the first set was still a hard fought contest. However, the second set was all going in one direction, as Collins thoroughly outplayed her opponent.

Danielle reached the semifinals of Australian Open for the second time, as she reached the last four in 2019, where she lost to Petra Kvitova in straight sets. Collins has had a few deeper runs in the tournament since, but this has to be one of her standout performance in quite a while.

Next up, Collins faces seventh seed, Iga Swiatek who defeated Kaia Kanepi in thee sets in the final quarterfinal. Speaking in the post-match press conference, Collins attributed her recent success to her improved service and stamina, something which she has been working on for quite a while.

I think my serving has gotten a lot stronger. I think my stamina on court has improved tremendously. I think just overall power and speed has improved. That’s something that I focused so much on over the last couple years. I think that’s probably the biggest difference to where I was, if I compare my semifinal run here in 2019,” said Danielle Collins.

Iga Swiatek, French Open 2020 champion has made a reputation for being one of the fiercest strikers of the ball. Danielle Collins expects her semifinal opponent to be relentless, powerful in their battle on Thursday.

“No matter who I’m going to play, they’re going to be very tough competitors, very relentless, powerful, strong, everything you would expect in a semifinal,” she said.

Danielle Collins stated that in 2019 when she reached the semifinals of Australian Open, it was the first time that she made it this far. However, given her few good runs in Grandslams post 2019, Collins believes she has of plenty of experience up her sleeve, and it could be an entirely different story this time around.

“Last time I was here in the semifinals I had never done that before. I’ve made some deeper runs in tournaments since then. Hopefully I can carry the confidence that I’ve gained over the last couple years and be able to use that to my advantage,” the American continued.
