REVEALED! Barbora Krejcikova’s potential path to claim maiden Australian Open title

Barbora Krejčíková

World No. 4 Barbora Krejcikova will be back in Grand Slam action as she continues her hunt for her second singles major after having won her first-ever singles Grand Slam title at the 2021 French Open. The Czech star has the World No. 1 rank in the doubles and is a 3-time champion with a runner-up finish at the 2021 Australian Open as well.

After her fantastic singles season last year where she also qualified for the 2021 WTA Finals in both singles and doubles and won the doubles title there, she will be back on the lookout for another major this year around. Barbora will make 3rd main-draw appearance at the Slam having previously been defeated in the qualifiers on 5 occasions.

This year, however, she is seeded 4th and is likely to move past the 2nd round for the first time in her career at Melbourne Park. Barbora will start against Germany’s Andrea Petkovic in the first round and is likely to meet China’s Xiyu Wang who enters the main-draw through a wildcard.

Her first seeded opponent can be Latvian Jelena Ostapenko who is the 26th seed at this year’s tournament. Barbora’s performances in the 2021 season give a good hope that she should be able to deal with these fixtures before taking on Olympics Bronze medallist and the 15th seed Elina Svitolina in the 4th round which will be her first big test on her way to the title.

Barbora Krejcikova could meet World No. 1 Ash Barty in the semi-finals

In the quarter-finals, Barbora would have to overcome 8th seeded Paula Badosa who has given some great performances on hardcourt in recent times. The biggest test however will be in the semi-finals for Krejcikova is she can be up against World No. 1 and local girl Ash Barty in the semi-finals and it will definitely be her toughest test.

In the finals, Barbora will be up against 2nd seed Aryna Sabalenka and will have a bone to pick with the Belarusian as Sabalenka along with partner Elise Mertens had defeated Krejcikova and her partner Katerina Siniakova in the doubles finals at the 2021 Australian Open, denying the Czech pair another Grand Slam title to their name.
