REVEALED! Naomi Osaka’s potential path to claim her 3rd Australian Open title

Naomi Osaka with her Australian Open 2021 trophy

Naomi Osaka, defending champion of the Australian Open is all set to defend her title in Melbourne. Seeded 13th at the Australian Open 2022, the Japanese will hope to win her third title in Melbourne this time around.

Naomi Osaka has been handed a tough draw in order to claim her third Australian Open title. Much of this can be attributed to the fact that she is seeded 13th after ending her season early last year. The Japanese opens her campaign against Italian, Camila Osorio in the first round, where she should emerge victorious.

In the second round, Osaka is expected to face Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine. The going gets tougher in the third round, where she could face Tokyo Olympics gold-medalist and ninth seed, Belinda Bencic. In the fourth round, a blockbuster meeting awaits against top seed and favorite, Ashleigh Barty.

The biggest hurdle Naomi Osaka faces is her fourth round clash against Ashleigh Barty. The Japanese has won four hard court titles, whereas, Barty is yet to win one. However, on current form, the top seed is still the favorite.

If she passes the Australian test in the last 16, the Japanese will most likely face fifth seed, Maria Sakkari in the quarterfinals. Then, a potential semifinal clash against fourth seed, Barbora Krejcikova or eighth seed, Paula Baodsa awaits for a place in the finals.

Naomi Osaka’s path to the title:

  • Round 1- Camila Osorio
