Novak Djokovic with his 2021 Australian Open title

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic will indeed be playing at the upcoming 2022 Australian Open where the Serbian has been seeded first in the main-draw despite all the drama that has taken place regarding his participation at the Grand Slam after the vaccine saga as he remains unvaccinated.

Despite all that, the player has now returned to training and was pictured playing at the Rod Laver Arena as he now reaches the Grand Slam without any match practice as he was tangled in the court proceedings till the tour events began. However, that is now history and the Serbian has now eyes set on creating some better history for himself.

Already a 9-time champion at the Australian Open, Novak is also the 3-time defending champion this year. After having won 3 Grand Slam titles last year that takes his Grand Slam title tally to 20, the World No. 1 comes chasing a historic 21st Grand Slam title.

Djokovic will start his title defence against compatriot Miomir Kecmanovic and undoubtedly will be the favourite for the match. He is likely to face American Tommy Paul in round 2 before he takes on Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego, all of those who would be comparatively easy challenges for Djokovic, to begin with.

His first real challenge will be against France’s Gael Monfils in Round 4 as the Frenchman has been in terrific form having already won a tour title this season. Believing Novak is good for Monfils, the Serbian will then proceed into the quarter-finals of the Grand Slam and is most likely to take on Italian Matteo Berrettini.

Djokovic has played in 12 quarter-final matches so far and has lost only thrice. Given his dominance at Melbourne Park and ability on hardcourt, Novak is likely to go past Berrettini and enter his 9th semi-final. In the semi-finals, he could either be up against World No. 6 and 6th seeded Rafael Nadal or World No. 3 and 3rd seeded Alexander Zverev.

Djokovic has not yet lost a semi-final clash at the Australian Open and won’t be thinking of losing one this year after all the drama has happened around his participation. In the finals, Djokovic could either take on World No. 4 and 4th seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas or World No. 2 and 2nd seeded Daniil Medvedev who was also the runner-up to Djokovic last year.
