Roger Federer is all set to feature in the first round of the French Open 2021 on Monday. The Swiss maestro is seeded eighth in Paris, and will face the Uzbek, Denis Istomin in the first round clash. The 39-year old is making only his second French Open appearance in the past five years, and is placed in the top half of the draw, alongside Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
Roger Federer seems to be buzzing to take the court on Monday, as he posted an image on his Twitter account, which shows him pretty excited for the French Open 2021. The caption read, “Jumping into the new week,” which is accompanied by a couple of emojis.
Roger Federer to face Denis Istomin in the first round of French Open 2021
Roger Federer will lock horns against Denis Istomin in the first round of French Open 2021. Surprisingly, Istomin’s first Grandslam match was against Roger Federer at Australian Open 2006. The Uzbek tennis player has done all the hard work to book a spot in the main draw, after winning three qualifying matches. Istomin is no stranger to creating upsets, as he defeated Novak Djokovic in the second round of Australian Open in 2018.
Roger Federer has played just one clay court match this season at Geneva Open 2021. It ended in a three set loss at the hands of Pablo Andujar in the second round itself. One might get the impression that Federer is a bit unprepared heading into the French Open 2021, but the 39-year old has clearly stated that his main focus is to regain full fitness, prior to Wimbledon 2021. Hence, French Open will only serve as a stepping stone for a full-fledged grass court season.
