REVEALED! Roger Federer’s Chances at French Open 2021

Roger Federer

Roger Federer will be playing at French Open 2021, having just played 3 matches on the tour this year. The veteran made a comeback after 13 months to play at ATP 250 event in Doha, Qatar.

He managed to win the opening match against Dan Evans with the scoreline of 7-6, 3-6, 7-5 but then lost to the eventual champion, Nikoloz Basilashvili in the next round with the scoreline of 6-3, 1-6, 5-7.

After making an early exit in Doha, Roger discussed with his team about his near future on the tour and decided to go back to training once again. He conveyed it to the fans through social media platforms that he will not be competing in Dubai and rather go back to training once again for practice.

After 2 months of training, Federer again made a comeback on tour in the ATP 250 event at Geneva, Switzerland. He was participating in a clay-court event after almost 2 years and his comeback was cut short by Pablo Andujar as he was beaten in 3 sets with the scoreline of 4-6, 6-4, 4-6.

The chances for Federer to lift his second French Open title after 2009 are bleak as he has himself said that he cannot even think to win the French Open. He is taking the French Open to be a stepping stone instead as it will help him get back to the rhythm.

What are the Expectations from Roger Federer at French Open 2021?

Federer’s playing style is not suited to play in clay as he is unable to make aggressive shots from the baseline if the ball bounces high towards his backhand. He has won the French Open only once in 2009 where he completed his career slam. He would be hoping to have a decent run in this year’s Roland Garros as it will help him get some good match practice which has been lacking this year.

Roger Federer completes career slam at French Open, 2009

The maestro last played at the French Open in 2019 where he made it to the semi-finals and ultimately lost to the eventual champion and his arch-rival, Rafael Nadal in straight sets with the scoreline of 3-6, 4-6, 2-6.

\The veteran will be 40 years of age in August this year and the clay has never been his favorite surface. Considering all above factors, it will be interesting to see how he performs at Roland Garros, 2021.

In my opinion, if Federer reaches the 3rd round of the tournament, he will have a decent amount of match practice and will have some confidence going into the grass court season. And if the veteran reaches the quarter finals of Roland Garros, he will definitely have a chance to lift his 21st Grand Slam at Wimbledon.
