Roberto Bautista Agut has had a contrasting season so far. He started of the season with some great performances reaching two finals, first in Montpellier 2021 and later in Doha 2021 but was unfortunate to not win the titles. He also made it till the semi-finals of the Miami Masters 2021 but since then is yet to qualify beyond the Round of 16.

He comes to Rome from Madrid Masters 2021 where he was knocked out in the Round of 32 by American John Isner . He has won both of his matches comfortably in straight sets and now sets up this tie in Round of 16.

Andrey Rublev has been in amazing form this season, winning the ATP Cup 2021 and Rotterdam Open 2021. He also made it to the finals of the Monte Carlo Masters 2021 and the semi-finals of the Dubai Open 2021 and the Miami Masters 2021.
