Andrey Rublev vs Marton Fucsovics : Preview
Andrey Rublev enters the 4th round at Wimbledon for the very first time as he defeats Italian Fabio Fognini 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 in 3 hours. Rublev registered his 2nd 4-set win this week at Wimbledon after winning the 2nd round match in straight-sets against South African Lloyd Harris.
Rublev had entered the main draw for the very first time in the 2017 Wimbledon after winning his 3 qualifying rounds but was defeated in the 2nd round. The 2018 Wimbledon was no different for the young Russian who despite having entered the main-draw directly was again defeated in the 2nd round. This year was the first time he won his 2nd round match and now finds himself in Round of 16.
Marton Fucsovics is also set to make his first Round of 16 appearance at the All-England Club as he defeats 9th seeded Diego Schwartzmann 6-3, 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-4 in over 3 hours and 19 minutes. He had defeated Jannik Sinner in 4-sets in the 1st round and had to see his 2nd round match cut short with Jiri Vesely retired hurt in the 2nd set of the match.
Fucsovics had reached the 2nd round at the 2019 Wimbledon which was his best ever result at the Grand Slam. However, with this week’s excellent performances against two very good players in Sinner and Schwartzmann, Fucsovics finds himself a step away from entering his maiden Grand Slam quarter-finals.

This will be the 7th meeting between the duo but it will be their first on Grass. Fucsovics won their first two matches while Rublev won the remaining 4 and leads the head-to-head tie 4-2 after having dropped only 1 set in his 4 victories against Marton.

Fucsovics comes into the tie with a career Grass record of 28-18 and an overall season record of 21-12. He also played at the ATP Stuttgart Open 2021 and ATP Eastbourne 2021 but could not go past the 2nd round.
Rublev will take the court as the favourite with a career Grass record of 17-9 and an overall season record of 36-10. He had made it till the finals of the ATP Halle Open 2021 but couldn’t lift the title losing to Ugo Humbert in straight-sets. He will however be confident of making into the quarter-finals as Wimbledon remains the only Grand Slam where he has not reached last-8.
