Rumours of Serena Williams splitting with coach Patrick Mouratoglou swirl after the former World No.1 shared intentions of returning at the Wimbledon

Serena Williams has recently given implications of being back in action at the Wimbledon. The 23-time Grand Slam winner has been out of action for some time now. The last time she played was back last year at the Wimbledon when she had retired in her first round clash.

However, a lot has changed on tour since she last picked up the racket on tour. The biggest news has to be her former coach Patrick Mouratoglou‘s new union with former World No. 1 Simona Halep. With Serena Williams ready to make a comeback at the Wimbledon, Mouratoglou’s association with Halep can very well mean a split between Williams and her long term French coach. However, nothing is confirmed yet and most of this is in speculation but it sure looks that way.

When Mouratoglou made the announcement of his association with Simona Halep, the tennis fraternity were very excited to know about Serena Williams‘ stance on the entire issue. Some even felt that they may not see Serena Williams back again.

However, the 40-year-old cleared the air in an Instagram video featuring Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, posted backstage at a Bitcoin conference in Miami. She said, “We’ve been talking about my comeback and he’s been hyping me up and getting me ready for Wimbledon. Can’t wait!”

Rodgers replied: “Wimbledon? What about the US Open?”

Williams responded: “Wimbledon is before the US Open! I have to play Wimbledon first!”

‘I took the call only after discussing it with her,” Patrick Mouratoglou reveals his discussion with Serena Williams before joining hands with Simona Halep

However, Mouratoglou has cleared his stance in an interview where he shared how he has had conversations with Serena about her future plans and only after that he had taken up the new job at hand.

“I decided to go see Serena to discuss the situation and see what was her own situation and what could be mine,” Mourtaglou said. “If she was still counting on me or not, did she know exactly when she would restart playing, you know, all those things. So I went there to the US only to speak to her, which I did. And after this discussion, I knew that at least short-term I could start working as a coach with somebody else,” the Frenchman revealed in an interview with the TennisMajors.

So we may probably see the split between Williams and Mouratoglou, it was a very successful association for both parties as Serena won 10 out of her 23 Grand Slams under her French coach. So parting ways will be a little sad for the tennis fans.

However, it will be interesting to follow their new journeys. Serena Williams has not played for a long time and her rankings have plummeted to 246 right now so it will be difficult for her to make a strong at this age. But she has had adversities before and she has tackled them with great sensational mentality and courage. It is her hunger and strife to be better that make her an absolute legend.

Similarly, Patrick Mouratoglou also has an exciting project with Simona Halep. The former World No. 1 is also returning on tour after injuries. The Romanian has done well in some events till now but has been far from her best. It is something that Mouratoglou will look to explore and work on in the next few months.
