Ruud comes into Indian Wells with all the momentum on his back, after making the finals of San Diego last week. In the process, he also beat former World No.1 Andy Murray in the opening round. The Norwegian has arguably been the most improved player on the tour this year.

While he impressed one and all with his clay-court performances during the European clay-court swing, Ruud also elevated his game to get the desired results on the hard courts. With deep runs in most marquee events, the 22-year-old has already cracked the top-10 of the men’s ranking. For 2021, Ruud has a 14/6 win/loss on the hard surface.

On the other hand, Baena comes into this contest after beating Renzo Olivo in straight sets in the opening round. Interestingly, the Spaniard was seen playing the Murcia Challenger last week, where he made the finals. Baena has played most of his matches for 2021 on the dirt, owing to which he is going to find it extremely tough to deal with Ruud’s shot-making.
