Sabalenka comes into this match after destroying the Canadian Rebecca Marino in three sets. Earlier in the tournament, she also survived a three-set battle against American Sloane Stephens. The Belarusian has put together some fine results in 2021 till now. She even reached her maiden Wimbledon semifinals recently, before Karolina Pliskova stopped her run. On the clay too, Sabalenka won the title in Madrid and also reached the finals of Stuttgart. The 23-year-old also kicked off the season with an impressive title win in Abu Dhabi on the hard courts. The top-seed will once again be keen to make an impact this week in Montreal, as she prepares for the final Grand Slam of the year in New York. For the season till now, she has won 17 matches on the hard courts.

On the other hand, Azarenka comes into this match after beating Greek player Maria Sakkari in three, tough sets. She also beat Sorona Cirstea in straight sets earlier in the competition. The former World No.1 tasted decent success on the grass courts, as she made the quarters of Bad Homburg and semis of Berlin. On the French Open clay, she lost in the fourth round to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. But perhaps, the two-time Grand Slam champion’s best surface is the hard court, where she has a 8-4 win/loss record till now for 2021.
