Aryna Sabalenka vs Madison Keys : Preview
Aryna Sabalenka is set to make her Grass debut of the season when she takes the court on Wednesday for the 2nd round match at the Berlin Open. The Belarusian was given a bye in the first round as she is seeded 1st in the tournament. Like the majority, she will be back on the surface for the first time since the 2019 Wimbledon, where she had a 1st round exit in straight-sets.
After a fairly successful Clay season, Aryna will step on Grass for the first time this season. She comes to Berlin from a 3rd round defeat at the French Open 2021 where she was one of the favourite to win the Grand Slam as she still chases her maiden Grand Slam title after having won 10 WTA titles.
Madison Keys comes into the match after a straight-set victory in the first round to set-up this meeting with Aryna. Similar to Aryna, she last played on Grass at the 2019 Wimbledon where she lost in the 2nd round in straight-sets.
Madison has not been in great form this year and will be looking for change in fortunes with the change in playing surface as she will be hopeful of a good build up for the upcoming Grand Slam at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
Aryna Sabalenka vs Madison Keys : Head to Head
This will just be the 2nd meeting between the duo, who last met at the 2018 Cincinnati Open where Sabalenka won in straight-sets and also leads the head-to-head tie 1-0.
Aryna Sabalenka vs Madison Keys : Prediction
Madison has been quite experienced on the surface having made her Grass debut in 2012. Her form has been fluctuating however as she comes into the match with a career record of 32-13 on Grass. In the past 3 seasons however, she has not been that great as compared to the start she made on the surface. She will take the court with a season record of 6-7 that includes her 1st round win.
Sabalenka enters her 4th career Grass season and is currently 16-11 on the surface. She has however gained form over the last 2 years and will probably be a better player this time around. She comes into the match with a season record of 27-8. Aryna will be the favourite for this tie given her overall form over the past 2 seasons against the struggling Madison.
Prediction: Aryna Sabalenka to win in 3-sets.
