“SACK him immediately!” Tennys Sandgren on the Andrea Gaudenzi controversy

ATP chairman Andrea Gaudenzi has recently rocked the tennis circuit with his controversial statements. The former professional highlighted in a recent interview that tennis players should be able to bear the cost of their expenses on the Challenger Tour matches. He went on to compare the expenses players face to an “investment” and said that once the player reaches the top and realize their true potential, they can easily make the money back.
“In the Challenger Tour, you should be able to break even & pay your costs. But you have to be conscious that this is sort of like a university. It’s an investment. Then go & move into the pro tour where you have a job” said Gaudenzi.
Tennys Sandgren outraged by Gaudenzi’s statement!
World number 96 Tennys Sandgren was left absolutely livid by Andrea Gaudenzi’s statement. The American went on to suggest that the Italian should be ousted from his post immediately due to his callous statements.
“ It doesn’t matter whether Gaudenzi is right or not, he portrays a ridiculously bad image. After his words, he should be sacked immediately,” said the American.
This came after Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA) founder and fellow tennis professional Vasek Pospisil’s similar outrage regarding the matter. The Canadian deemed the ATP chief to be “completely ignorant” and having no care about the players who are outside the top 100 in the players’ rankings. Pospisil accused Gaudenzi of believing that only the top 100 players should make a living out of tennis, despite it being a “multi-billion industry”.
“This is incredibly ignorant from the so-called leader of the ATP and the sport of tennis. A multi-billion dollar industry yet this man feels it’s ok for only the top 100 players to make a living. This is what happens when you completely monopolize the sport,” Tweeted Pospisil.
The PTPA, founded by Novak Djokovic and Vasek Pospisil, has been fighting for the rights of tennis players, ensuring a self-governance structure that is independent of the ATP and is directly responsive to the needs and concerns of professional tennis players.
