Diego Schwartzman vs Ricardas Berankis: Preview

Diego Schwartzman
Diego Schwartzman

Schwartzman comes into the 2021 US Open, after three consecutive exits in the third rounds of Tokyo, Toronto and Cincinnati. Although the Argentine player prefers playing on the clay, as compared to any other surface, he can still pack a punch on the hard courts. The diminutive Schwartzman has beaten several top players on the hard courts in his career and with two quarterfinal appearances in New York (2017, 2019), he is going to be gritty customer to put away.

On the other hand, the Lithuania player comes into this match after beating Gianluca Mager and Yoshihito Nishioka in the qualifying rounds. Berankis was also seen at the Toronto Masters, where he was downed in the first round by Australia’s John Millman. At the Citi Open though, he made the third round before losing to Steve Johnson in straight sets. With only nine wins and seven losses on the hard courts, not much is expected from the 31-year-old qualifier.

Diego Schwartzman vs Ricardas Berankis: Prediction

Diego Schwartzman will be the favourite in the upcoming Diego Schwartzman vs Felix Auger-Aliassime clash at the Rome Masters 2021.
Diego Schwartzman

Schwartzman will enter this match as the heavy favourite. However, if Berankis has to make his opponent work for his money, then he will need to convert break points better. In the qualifying rounds, Berankis struggled on his second serve and return points. On the other hand, the 29-year-old Argentine might not be a big server, but will use his speed and experience to progress ahead.

Match Prediction: Diego Schwartzman should win in three sets.
