Diego Schwartzman vs Marcos Giron: Preview
Schwartzman has been enjoying a healthy run on the hard courts lately. After two consecutive quarterfinals in San Diego and Indian Wells, the Argentine also ended up making the finals of Antwerp, before losing to Jannik Sinner in the finals. In the last week as well, the 29-year-old ended up in the quarters of Vienna before making his way into Paris.
In the opening round, Schwartzman had to come through a tough, three-setter against Australia’s John Millman. Considering his recent results on the hard surface, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the diminutive Argentina player make another deep run in Bercy this week.
On the other hand, the American has seen a mixed bag of results on the hard courts since the start of the Tokyo Olympics. After an initial stutter in the first few tournaments, Giron managed to make the quarterfinals of Winston-Salem and Metz, before reaching the finals in Sofia last month. That said, the 28-year-old also suffered early exits in Vienna and Indian Wells.
This week in Paris, Giron entered as a qualifier and ended up shocking Frances Tiafoe in three sets in the opening round.
Diego Schwartzman vs Marcos Giron: Head to Head
These two players have never met on the ATP tour as yet.
Diego Schwartzman vs Marcos Giron: Prediction
Schwartzman will be the favourite coming into this match, given his recent run and rank. That said, Giron has also shown his ability to hold his own on the hard courts lately. Giron can also look to attack the wobbly serve of his opponent. However, once the Argentine starts moving the American around the court and can return deep balls, he should be able to progress ahead without too much trouble.
Match Prediction: Diego Schwartzman should win in two sets.
