Diego Schwartzman vs Tomas Machac: Preview

Diego Schwartzman
Diego Schwartzman

Schwartzman comes into this match behind a mix bag of results for 2021. After winning the tournament on clay, earlier in the year in Buenos Aires, the Argentine didn’t particularly enjoy a great time on the European clay, ahead of the French Open. However, the diminutive player did manage to make the quarterfinals of Roland Garros, before Rafael Nadal beat him. The world no.13 beat Juan Pablo Varillas in the opening round in Tokyo and remains a dark horse to create some stir in the men’s draw. Till now, the 28-year-old has won 19 matches and lost 12 for the year.

On the other hand, the Czech player downed Joao Sousa in three sets in the opening round. The 20-year-old has remained a qualifier for most of the premier tournaments on the ATP tour in 2020. However, the 145th ranked player did win the Nur Sultan Challengers, earlier in the year on the hard courts. Although Machac has a 7-1 win/loss ratio for the season on the hard courts, he is yet to beat a big gun for the season. Given his inexperience, he is not expected to progress ahead in Tokyo beyond the second round.

Diego Schwartzman vs Tomas Machac: Prediction

Diego Schwartzman will be the favourite in the upcoming Diego Schwartzman vs Felix Auger-Aliassime clash at the Rome Masters 2021.
Diego Schwartzman

The Argentine will come into this match as the top favourite to progress ahead. Schwartzman’s experience of playing at a high level on the ATP tour and his ability to remain consistent from the back court should see him through comfortably. While Machac will try his best, it is tough to see him stun his higher ranked opponent.

Match Prediction: Diego Schwartzman should win in two sets.
