Iga Swiatek‘s admiration and respect for 21-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal is no more a surprise. The two often meet during the tournaments and seem to enjoy each other’s company. The friendship between them is also getting great attention on social media for both the players are crowd favourites for their feats.

The two French Open champions come into the 2022 Indian Wells with titles in their previous tournaments. While Nadal won the ATP-500 Acapulco Open 2022, Iga won the WTA-1000 Qatar Open 2022, her second WTA-1000 title. The two met during a media interaction for the players at the Indian Wells.

Nadal was heading for his thing when he noticed Iga and stopped to share a hug with her. “How are you, all good, having fun?” said Nadal. “Congrats for Acapulco,” replied Iga to which Nadal also replied, “You too, well done,” for her title win in Qatar in the previous week. Nadal then picked up his bag and moved ahead to which the video played the famous ‘GTA San Andreas’ music.

With Iga known to be a quick finisher in her matches, she was tested well by Anhelina Kalinina. Iga however went on to win the match 5-7, 6-0, 6-1 to move into the third round of the tournament where she will take on Clara Tauson. This will be Iga’s second time in the 3rd round of the tournament, with her best result so far being her 4th round run at the tournament in 2021.

As for Nadal, having received a bye in the first round, the Spaniard will now take on American youngster Sebastian Korda in their second career meeting and first on hardcourts having last met during Nadal’s winning run at the 2020 French Open. Korda comes into the match with a straight-set win over Thanasi Kokkinakis to set up the clash with Rafa.
