Simona Halep, two time Grandslam champion has fired both her coacher after working for just a short amount of time. Halep first announced that she had decided to part ways with Daniel Dobre last week, and now, she has decided to fire Adrian Marcu.
Things have not been going Simona Halep’s way ever since her long injury layoff. Halep was knocked out in the fourth round of Australian Open 2022 by Alize Cornet in a three set thriller. Although, the Romanian took the loss very sportingly, yet it propelled her to make adjustments in her coaching staff.
Simona Halep drops out of top 20 WTA Rankings
Simona Halep, who was a mainstay in the top 3 WTA Rankings up till last year, has now seen her ranking plummet to 22. There is plenty of work left to be done, if the Romanian is to climb back to the top 10 WTA Rankings.
Simona Halep was looking solid at the Australian Open 2022 before the fourth round clash against Alize Cornet. She cleared off her opening round opponents in straight sets, and with several top guns out of her half of the draw, it seemed as if she could reach the finals.
Simona Halep claimed the Melbourne Open title prior to the commencement of Australian Open. She defeated V. Kudermetova in straight sets in the finals. However, she has not done too well at major events in the recent past. She was also knocked out in the fourth round of US Open 2021, losing to Elina Svitolina in the fourth round in straight sets. She missed the Wimbledon 2021 and French Open 2021 due to injuries.
