‘She will be one of the best players in the world,’ Simona Halep on Emma Raducanu
Simona Halep and Emma Raducanu
Emma Raducanu stunned the world at Flushing Meadows when she became the first qualifier in tennis history to win a grand slam. She won the tournament without dropping a single set, which speaks volumes of her dominance. But unfortunately for her, she lost her very first match after the US Open triumph at Indian Wells.
She will now compete at the Transylvania Open where she is seeded third. Home favorite and top seed at Cluj-Napoca, Simona Halep, spoke highly on Emma ahead of the tournament. Halep believes that Emma is a quality player and will easily break into the top 10 very soon and will become one of the best players in the world.
“If she achieved already the grand slam title, I think she’s able to achieve everything,” Halep told reporters. “She has now the experience of winning the biggest tournament in tennis. I think she can, yeah, easy she can go in top 10, I think soon, sooner than everybody thinks because already she’s close to that. She has a bright future, and for sure, she will be one of the best players in the world.”
‘The pressure is not great for a player’: Simona Halep
Halep further added that pressure does no good for a player and despite being young, Emma will feel the pressure.
“The pressure is not great for a player. Even if she’s so young, I think she feels the pressure, it’s normal. Everybody does,” Halep said. She also said that she will become very strong as the time progresses.
“You guys better enjoy her results, her tennis, the way she is, because she’s super nice and wait for her to grow up a little bit in this level because she just jumped now. She did something great, and probably – it’s just my opinion – she will need some time to to see how it is every week to be there, and then she will become stronger, much stronger.“
