From late 2020 through the start of the 2021 season, Jannik Sinner maintained his success. At the Great Ocean Road Open, he won his second career ATP championship, defeating No. 20 Karen Khachanov in the semifinals after saving a match point. Since Rafael Nadal in 2005, he is the youngest player to win back-to-back ATP titles. He won his first doubles championship at the 2021 Atlanta Open with Reilly Opelka, defeating Steve Johnson and Jordan Thompson. Later, in the final of the Washington Open, he defeated Mackenzie McDonald to earn his third championship and first ATP 500 title. As a consequence, on August 9, 2021, he broke into the top 15 of the ATP rankings.

James Duckworth began the 2021 season by defeating Ugo Humbert in the Murray River Open, his first win over a top-50 opponent in more than four years. Duckworth represented Australia in the 2020 Summer Olympics in July. In the second round, he was beaten by Karen Khachanov, the 12th seed. His greatest performance so far came at Challengers Nur-Sultan 2, when he reached the tournament’s quarterfinals. He was then defeated in three sets by Indian Prajnesh Gunneswaran.
