In the final clash of the ATP Eastbourne 2021, World No. 27 and the 3rd-seeded Lorenzo Sonego will be up against World No. 18 and the 2nd-seeded Alex de Minaur.

Lorenzo Sonego reaches the 2nd final of the season as he defeats Australian Max Purcell who entered the main draw as the lucky-loser. Sonego defeated him 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 in 1 hour and 38 minutes to make it into his 2nd career Grass finals after having reached the first at the 2019 Antalya Open where he won his maiden ATP title.

The semi-final victory was the only match where Sonego dropped a set in his run this week. After having received a bye in the first round, he won the next 2 rounds in straight-sets before Max took him to the deciding set, in what was a surprising run by the 23-year old Australian.

Alex de Minaur also makes it into his 2nd final of the season after over coming Soon-Woo Kwon 6-3, 7-6(2) to advance into his 1st ever final to be played on Grass. The Australian had won the 2021 Antalya Open played on Hardcourts in the start of the year and will now be aiming to clinch his 2nd title of the season and 1st on Grass as the Wimbledon 2021 is set to begin next week.

Alex has been ruthless in his run so far not having dropped a set so far this week. Having received a bye in the first round due to his seeding like Sonego, Alex won the next 3 matches in straight-sets to progress into the finals.

This will be their 2nd career meeting and first on Grass as they previously met at the 2020 Paris Masters played on Indoor Hardcourts where Alex won in straight-sets and leads the head-to-head tie 1-0.

Sonego will come into the tie with a career record of 10-7 on Grass and an overall season record of 18-12 which includes his title run at the 2021 Cagliari Open. After a first round exit at the Queen’s Club 2021, Sonego has made a good comeback ahead of the Grand Slam in Wimbledon but will be having a tough time against Alex.

Alex will take the court as the favourite for the title given his good track record on Grass. He is 30-14 on Grass across his career and is currently on 19-13 for the season. With a semi-final run at the Queen’s Club 2021 and now into the finals, Alex will be the clear favourite for the clash and to win his 5th career title.
