Stanislas Wawrinka

Stanislas Wawrinka, a Swiss tennis player, was once a formidable force in men’s tennis. He was amazing in the way he went about things from the 2014 season to the 2016 season. However, circumstances have not been going well for him recently. Over the last several seasons, Wawrinka has been plagued by ailments on a regular basis. He had surgery on his left foot, which kept him out of the game for more than a year.

But, the good news is that He will be returning to professional tennis after a break of just over a year. In Marbella, the three-time major champion competes in the ATP Challenger event.

Given the Swiss’s career achievements, Stanislas Wawrinka and the Challenger Tour make for an unusually vibrant pair. Wawrinka, for example, won the first challenger following the Covid-19 break in the final against Aslan Karatsev in Prague in 2020. He then advanced to the quarterfinals in the second, where he had to face Karatsev once again. For the three-time Grand Slam champion, however, it was enough tennis as he did not compete any longer.

The now 36-year-old is making his comeback in Marbella, in a Challenger competition in the 125 category. Wawrinka’s most recent match was in early 2021 in Doha, where he lost to Lloyd Harris. The return to the major stage should take place in Monte Carlo, where Stanislas Wawrinka, like Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, was handed a wildcard. Also, just like his counterpart, Dominic Thiem, another notable returnee, is now preparing for his comeback in Marbella after a long injury layoff. But, one important question surely does arise: Will the Austrian begin his professional tennis career on the second floor? It’s really unlikely. However, the return of the ‘Stanimal’ could set a precedent.
