Stefanos Tsitsipas is now a part of a cheeky list. The Greek sensation’s surname has proved quite challenging for people to say, and thus, it now features on the list of the most mispronounced names. The 23-year-old, who has won the 2019 ATP Finals, and was a finalist at the Roland Garros this year, has had a lot of exposure in the recent past. The constant media coverage has led to frequent mispronunciation of his ethnic Greek family name.

The list of mispronounced words was compiled by the US Captioning Company, and commissioned by Babbel, a language learning platform. The words that made the cut were shortlisted by a poll conducted amongst caption professionals. They were tasked with finding words that TV professionals had a hard time getting right while saying.

Besides Stefanos Tsitsipas, Jason Kelce of the Philanthropy Eagles also made it to the list. Kelce had revealed in a radio show that people, including his teammates, have been pronouncing his name wrong for years.

11 other words complete the list. These include the new COVID-19 variant ‘Omicron’, crypto currencies ‘Dogecoin’ and ‘Ethereum‘, slang term ‘Cheugy’, South Korean coffee ‘Dalgona’, fast fashion brand ‘Shein’, fast food chain ‘Chipotle’, beauty filter trend ‘Yassify’, singer Billie Eilish, Scottish city ‘Glasgow’, and ‘Ever Given’ – the ship that had blocked the Suez Canal.

Stefanos Tsitsipas has a 55-19 win-loss record this season. He won titles at Monte-Carlo and Lyon and made it to the finals of Acapulco, Barcelona, and Roland Garros. He came unbelievably close to winning his first grand slam trophy in Paris, but was thwarted by world no. 1 Novak Djokovic in the last moment. Ranked 4th in the world, the Greek had easily qualified for the ATP Finals, however, had to retire mid-tournament due to a persistent arm injury. He underwent a surgery a few days later, and is currently recuperating.
