REVEALED! Stefanos Tsitsipas’ Path to Claim his First US Open title
Stefanos Tsitsipas
Stefanos Tsitsipas is seeded 3rd and will be playing at US Open 2021 after having a good run at Cincinnati Masters last week. He reached the semi finals and was ultimately defeated by eventual champion, Alexander Zverev in a thriller. The German won the match with the score line of 6-4, 3-6, 7-6. The world number 3 also played at the Toronto Masters where he reached till the semi final stage as he was beaten by American, Reilly Opelka in 3 sets. The score line of the match was 7-6, 6-7, 4-6.
Tsitsipas participated at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and had a disappointing run. He was beaten by Frenchman, Ugo Humbert in the third round with the score line of 2-6, 7-6, 6-2.
The young gun has a tendency to perform well in the pressure situations and therefore has a chance to go deep in this year’s US Open. The single handed backhand from behind the baseline is Tsitsipas’s main strength.
The French Open 2021 runner up only made it to the 3rd round of the last year’s US Open. The 23 year old lost to 27th seed, Borna Coric in the third round with the score line of 7-6, 4-6, 6-4, 5-7, 6-7. It will be interesting to see how he performs here in New York.
Tough Road Ahead For Tsitsipas
Stefanos Tsitsipas is seeded 3rd in the US Open and has a tough road ahead of himself. He will meet former US Open Champion and the member of the Big 4, Andy Murray in the first round. In the second round, the Greek is most likely to clash with veteran, Adrian Mannarino
In the 3rd round, Stefanos is most likely to set up a clash with the Brit, Cameron Norrie. The Greek is likely to meet with either Cristain Garin or the rising star, Ugo Humbert in the fourth round of the US Open 2021.
If the world number 3 manages to cross the above hurdles, then he is most likely to play against the current world number 7, Andrey Rublev or young gun, Felix Auger Aliassime in the quarter finals. The potential semi final fixture for Tsitsipas would be against former US Open finalist, Daniil Medvedev or 8th seed, Casper Ruud. If everything goes on course for the 23 year old, he can meet either Olympic Gold medalist, Alexander Zverev or 20 time grand slam champion, Novak Djokovic or Wimbledon 2021 finalist, Matteo Berrettini.
