‘Superhero!’ Serena Williams SMASHES misconceptions public have about her father

Venus, Richard, and Serena Williams
Former World No. 1 Serena Williams continues to work towards getting match fitness and returning to the court having been absent from the Tour for nearly 8 months having last played a match on 29th June 2021 in the first round of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships where the player injured her leg and was forced to withdraw.
Williams did try to return for the 2021 US Open but was unable to make a comeback despite her agent previously giving positive updates on her recovery. The superstar was expected to return for 2022 Australian Open but a few days prior to the commencement of the tournament, she announced her withdrawal from the tournament as her medical team advised against her returning.
Serena banishes public misconceptions about her father

Recently, Serena Willams addressed a public misconception about her father’s role in her and Venus Williams’ tennis careers, discussing her father’s parenting and coaching style in a cover story featuring the legendary sisters published in Harper’s Bazaar on Wednesday.
The American said that unlike the public image of tennis fathers, her father Richard Williams was not like that. Replying to people asking her how she’s managed to play tennis for so long, the legend replied that it was because of the environment they were raised in.
“That wasn’t necessarily my dad. like, ‘Well, how do you play tennis for so long?’ It’s because we weren’t raised in an environment where it was something that we abhorred,” said Serena.
She also revealed that her father always focussed on their physical sides, even today encouraging them to take rest when injured. The 40-year-old went on to speak about the film King Richard, which is based on Richard Williams. The 23 time Grand Slam winner said that the film has the capabilities of the Iron Man franchise since each character in the movie can be expanded into separate movies.
“The next, obviously, would be the Venus story, and then there’s always the story about our other three sisters, and then there’s like a mom, and then there’s the Serena story. I look at it, I see it just encompassing this whole superhero kind of thing,” said the American.
